Overview

Ousia is designed around local documents. Drafts, titles, feedback, conversations, and settings are stored on your computer. Analysis leaves the device only when you deliberately use the OpenAI provider.

Information stored on your computer

Ousia stores the information needed to maintain your writing workspace:

• draft text, titles, and branch names;
• analysis results, feedback markers, and conversations;
• application and inference settings;
• an optional downloaded local model; and
• private authentication and thread state for OpenAI access.

Release credentials are stored using the operating system's credential storage. Ousia keeps its application data separate from other Codex or ChatGPT installations on the same computer.

OpenAI analysis

When OpenAI is selected and you request an analysis or send a feedback message, Ousia sends the draft and conversation context needed for that request to OpenAI through your ChatGPT account. Ousia Labs does not run an intermediary inference server for this path.

OpenAI processes that information according to the terms and privacy choices associated with your account. Ousia does not send a draft to OpenAI merely because it was opened or edited.

Local analysis

When Local is selected, inference runs on your computer through a loopback-only model process. Draft content is not sent to OpenAI for a Local request. Installing the model contacts the model host to download the required file.

Information you send to Ousia Labs

If you contact Ousia Labs by email, we receive your email address and the information you include in the message. The current beta does not require an Ousia Labs account.

Deletion

Deleting an idea from Ousia removes its complete branch tree and associated application records. The optional local model can be removed separately from Settings. Removing the application itself may not remove cached files, so remove the model in Ousia before uninstalling when you want to recover that storage.
